Card 1) SS LURLINE Image of ship at sea. Postmarked Honolulu, Hawaii , Wednesday July 11th, 1934. It has a 4 cent stamp and AIR MAIL DIRECT marked next to stamp. It has cancellation mark stating Centennial of Hawaii's first postage.


Card 2) SS LURLINE Image of ship at sea with sailboat along side it. It is postmarked January 23, 1938 at Arcade Annex in Los Angeles, California. It has a 1 cent stamp. Both were mailed to Iowa.

Ship was named after the daughter of the company's owner , Lurline Matson


Its maiden voyage was in 1933.


SS Lurline was the third Matson Lines vessel to hold that name and the last of four fast and luxurious ocean liners that Matson built for the Hawaii and Australasia runs from the West Coast of the United States. Lurline's sister ships were SS Malolo, SS Mariposa and SS Monterey. Lurline served as a troopship in World War II operated by War Shipping Administration agents serving Army troop transport
