LeRoy Neiman 125th Preakness Stakes Open Edition, Hand Signed Offset Graphic

Frame Dimensions: 36.5” H x 42”W

The 125th Preakness Stakes, held at Pimlico Race Course in the heart of Maryland horse country, is the second jewel in racing's Triple Crown. LeRoy Neiman was honored to be selected as the official artist for the 125th running of the Preakness Stakes, to be held on May 20, 2000. Racing's Triple Crown consists of the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes in New York.

This year, fulfilling his role as official artist, LeRoy Neiman ascended the ladder to the weather vane and wield his paintbrush before the vast live crowd of nearly 100,000 and the worldwide television audience. In the featured serigraph, the race has just begun as the horses charge out of the gate. Against a serene backdrop of Maryland's spring greenery, jockeys in rainbow silks seem to float above a churning mass of equine legs and hooves. The ground shakes with thunder as the racers kick up clouds of red and pink dust. a leader has not yet emerged and with more than a mile left to go, the race is still wide open. As much a thoroughbred as the steeds he paints, LeRoy Neiman has created another tribute to the sport of kings, one to be treasured by Neiman collectors, racing fans and equiphiles alike. We are pleased to offer 125th Preakness Stakes by LeRoy Neiman. This piece is a signed offset graphic. It is an Open Edition ColorChrome print. Mr. Nieman hand signed and initialed it with a black sharpie. It has been framed and matted very professionally and we’re proud to offer this for sale for $990.00

‘Elephant Triptych’ By Leroy Neiman (Am. 1921-2012), Serigraph 122/425

Artist: Leroy Neiman

Title: Elephant Triptych

About the Art: ELEPHANT TRIPTYCH

Serigraph

Professional framed dark blue and black.

Serigraph 12" x 36 1/4"

Frame 22 1/2” x 44 1/4”

A limited edition of 122/425 numbered impressions; 85AP, 8PP, signed by the artist.

“The elephant is "an inexhaustible theme", says the artist. Neiman collectors know this to be true, as some of the artist's most beloved prints are Elephant Charge, Elephant Stampede, Elephant Family and Elephant Nocturne. Elephants were also featured in Neiman's record of his artistic adventures in Africa, the 1997 book LeRoy Neiman On Safari, and were depicted as performers in his serigraph Circus.

"There is nothing more awesome than an elephant in the wild," says Neiman. "In freedom elephants have a great authority that you don't see in the circus or the zoo. The lion is called the King of Beasts, but it is the elephant that is completely fearless and unstoppable. If aroused in fear or anger, they are unbelievably terrifying and destructive. But ordinarily they are just peaceful grazers of grass - truly "the gentle giants."

The elephant triptych is utterly unique. Three aspects of the elephant are presented against a forest of deep blue and green. On the left and right panels, the multicolored elephant charges through the forest, trampling everything in its path, head up, ears flapping, brandishing his dangerous tusks. In the center is a head study of the ponderous pachyderm - a real eye-to-eye view that in nature would be too close for comfort. The greatest land animal is given a powerful and impressive interpretation in the artist's well-balanced creation.” $1800
