Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) was an Italian composer and one of the most popular opera composers of all time. Among his most famous operas are "Rigoletto", "Il trovatore" and "La traviata". The opera "Il trovatore" (The troubadour) was composed between 1850 and 1853 and premiered 19 January 1853 in Rome (Italy). Since then thousands of performances happened and the work is a standard repertoire for most opera houses.



For sale is here a score of the piano reduction of the complete opera "Il trovatore" without the texts. Engraved. It was published by Tito di Gio. Ricordi in Milano in 1853, has 139 pages in total and the plate numbers 24967-24986. It measures 36x26 cm and is bound in cardboard. The title page is glued on the front cardboard, the last page on the back cardboard. Inside the score is complete and has no tears or damages. There is a water spot on the upper margin from about half of the score to the end. In the middle the spot is very vague and becomes more obvious to the end. The history of publications of scores to "Il trovatore" is complicated. Hopkinson gives at least 7 different publications already in 1853, the year of the premiere! The score for sale here seems to belong to the edition 54A(e), the "First Milanese Complete Edition". Ricordi also published the piano reduction with texts in 1853 with plate numbers 24842-24863. So this edition for sale here followed shortly afterwards.
