Willie Stargel had a long and successful career in Major League Baseball. He spent 21 seasons in the big leagues, playing for the Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, and Florida Marlins. He was a three-time All-Star, two-time Golden Glove winner, and the MVP of the 1977 NLCS.


Stargel was known for having a smooth and powerful swing, which allowed him to hit for average. In addition to batting .283 over his 21-year career, Stargel was also a patient hitter. He regularly led the league in walks and on-base percentage. He also had plenty of pop in his bat, finishing his career with 1,702 hits, 171 home runs, and 877 runs batted in.


On defense, Stargel was one of the best outfielders of his era. He won two Gold Gloves for his excellence in left field, and his ability to cover ground and make difficult catches allowed him to make the most of his speed. He also had a strong arm, which allowed him to register eight outfield assists in a single season.


In short, Willie Stargel was an excellent all-around player. He was a consistent hitter with power and patience, and he was a capable defensive outfielder with incredible range. His extraordinary career was highlighted by three All-Star appearances, two Gold Gloves, and an MVP in the 1977 NLCS.
