Fantastic Antique Chinese Needlework Embroidered Child's Dragon or Foo Dog Hat.  In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Chinese children's hats were designed to protect the child from sickness and ward off evil spirits.  People believed the hat would imbue the child with essential qualities such as wealth, health, courage, academic success, happiness, long life, grace, and beauty.  This gorgeous hat is full of symbolism.

The front of this hat features the face of an adorable dragon or foo lion.  The face is held on by a large spring and moves from side to side.  The face measures 5" wide x 5" long, including the bell at the chin.

This hat is in very good to excellent condition for its age, with very little damage; some light soil on pink trim and a few tiny pin holes that do not impair its value.  It has no detectable odor.  It's a beautiful and unique piece to add to your collection!
