We lived with Headhunters

By Ben Butcher. His own true story of life in Papua.

Butcher arrived in Papua in 1905, determined to live and work as a missionary, even though those preceeding him had been murdered. His account provides details of his day-to-day interactions with Papuan tribes. His account provides fascinating details of the Papuan tribal customs he witnessed, many of which he explains have since 'died out through the influence of the white men' (Pacific Islands Monthly, Feb, 1964).

A truly interesting account of Papuan life a century ago, as seen from a refreshing and readable perspective - not the pedantic, mildly racist, self-righteousness of many books of the missionary genre (these word adapted from Philip Fitzpatrick, 2010, https://www.pngattitude.com/2010/10/on-collecting-books-about-papua-new-guinea.html, who liked this book).

Includes a forward by H. Leonard Murray, former Administrator of Papua.
