“ The Arquebusier


Originating from c1873 comes this original steel engraving (hand coloured), of a scene created first by the artist – Jean Baptiste Madou (1796-1877 Belgium) in 1860, and as titled above. A portrait of a very fine soldier carrying an Arquebus – an early form of rifle also named the Hook Gun. Name is from the Dutch word Haakbus.

This is an original steel engraving print, and very professionally painted. On the back there is nothing and the plate is in very good condition for its age with no bad foxing or other blemishes – plate was printed by Virtue and co, with the sculptor being J.B. Meunier.

        An excellent portrayal of infantry history and weaponry.
