This is a seed pot created and signed by mother/daughter artists Flora and Glenda Naranjo.
The Naranjo name has been attached to this pottery style for generations and continues throughout the American Southwest still.
Their history is amazing when in the time of the Spanish Conquistadors forcing these native people
to relocate to the Santa Clara Pueblo. Amazing history and an art form that today is still developing
with many traditional artists pushing clay into new and intricate design.
I encourage you to explore the history of these peoples and their amazing art.
This is a black clay that is formed, stone ground to create the glossy finish against the more matted finish of the deep relief designs.
I feel that this is a special piece created by Mother (Flora) and daughter (Glenda) prior to Flora's passing in 2000.
I love this thing for its simple beauty and utilitarian function as the holder of the life sustaining seeds to be used in future cultivation.
It just seems to hold such a strong spiritual meaning as I'm sure the symbols represent.
