DESCRIPTION
This auction is for a qualitative, beautiful, rare, authentic and artistic work, historical interest, 1980s of the Greek ceramic art, handmade and hand painting, work enamel, refractory, burning in temperature of more from 1.000 degrees C, glazed, which has been crafted by the famous and talented Greek artist, Angelos Tsakirakis. It is signed lower right with the initials "A.T". This wall tile, consist of a total, six tiles, is surrounded by a wood frame with two hooks to hang it on the wall. Depicts with wonderful combination of the enamel colors, in modern style, (mannerism), a symbolic composition, inspired by the ancient oracle of Delphi. In the foreground, Pythia, sitting on the holy tripod, with leaves of laurel, obviously in ecstasy, invoke the god Apollo, and gives the famous and last her oracle, (362 AD), with receipient, the Emperor of Byzantium, Julian the Infringer, who when he decided to campaign against the Persians sent people to ask the Delphi oracle whether he should do this campaign. As you can see, this Pythian oracle, is written down in the ancient Greek language. The ceramic is in excellent condition. (This ceramic by Tsakirakis, but of large dimensions, has been placed on the main road of the city of Delphi).
Dimensions: Without frame, 40 X 30 cm, or 15 6/8 X 11 7/8 in, with wooden frame, 43 X 33 cm or 16 7/8 X 13 in, & weight, 2.330 gr.

Angelos Tsakirakis (1934-2006) was important Greek artist, ceramicist and painter. Studied in Doxiadis School and served the ceramic art, modestly, with love and dedication over forty years. He has created, handmade and hand painting ceramics masterpieces, classical and modern, which they liked a lot in the art lovers. Draws his themes from various sources, mythology, history, legends, and generally from the Greek tradition and culture. Today the authentic ceramics Tsakirakis, are highly collectible, especially for those who know and appreciate the ceramic art. Tsakirakis he had friendship and collaboration with top artists of his era, such as Yannis Tsarouchis, (see last photo, in the center is Tsarouchis and on the right is Tsakirakis), Constantinos Grammatopoulos, etc. Especially Yannis Tsarouchis who it had also dealt and with the ceramic art, (from 1981 in pottery of Maroussi), he admired the art and talent of Tsakirakis. His works are found in private collections in Greece and abroad.
