REALLY RARE & UNUSUAL OVAL/FLAT STYLE ANTIQUE REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD PISTOL POWDER HORN, With Original Hand-Carved Wooden Plug

DESCRIPTION: Particularly nice, rare unusual fancy style Revolutionary War PISTOL POWDER HORN.  Pistols were scarce, so always unusual and scarce to find a pistol powder horn.

It was conceived and made so nicely, and has a nice fancy, colonial look. COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL HAND-CARVED WOODEN STOPPER WHICH IS USUALLY MISSING on most antique powder horns.

When this one was made and the horn was heated, it was carefully flattened to turn its circular cross section INTO AN OVAL CROSS SECTION AS SHOWN. Gives it a completely different look and a very fancy style. Probably made for and used by an officer or a more affluent person.

Measures about 6 1/2" long along its length. The oval wooden butt plug measures about 1 5/8" wide x 3" long, and is held in by 13 small handmade nails. Much more than in a typical powder horn. Pouring end is also unusual, and is very nicely carved.

This has all the attributes, design, style, patina, and look of an early Revolutionary War period horn. Has particularly nice color and horn characteristics, surface smoothness and feel, nice overall appearance, and nice patina. Has a great look to it, for addition to a variety of collections or to hang with a flintlock pistol or musket.

Excellent condition overall, except for a few places with a bit of surface damage as shown. All on one side so the other side displays quite nicely. A very nice, unusual item and style and one of the nicer ones you will find.
