These controllers were originally sold in Japan under the brand name Super Famicom, but they are 100% compatible with original Super Nintendo (SNES) hardware. They should work with any hardware that supports SNES controllers (USB-SNES adapters, Analogue Super NT hardware, etc.) but I cannot make any guarantees past official consoles.
Super Famicom controllers vs. Super Nintendo Controllers:
The major differences between a Super Famicom and Super Nintendo controller are as follows:
- The Super Famicom is the Japanese version of the Super Nintendo.
- Super Famicom A, B, X, and Y buttons are red, yellow, blue, and green. Super Nintendo buttons are two shades of purple.
- Super Famicom A, B, X, and Y buttons are all convex. Two of the buttons are concave on the Super Nintendo version.
- The Super Famicom's cord is 3' long. The Super Nintendo's cord is 6' long.
Aside from the above, they are otherwise identical!
Cleaning:
Each controller has been rigorously cleaned by hand.
- Shells, membranes, and buttons were soaked in soap and water, and then scrubbed down completely with sponges, brushes, and towels
- The circuit boards and wires were scrubbed using 99% alcohol and a brush
- 99.99% of the ancient dirt, grease, and grime have been removed (I aim for perfection, but I'm only human).
Condition:
These controllers are all in clean, but used, condition. You may find signs of use, such as marks and scratches, on the shells and buttons.
Every controller sold in this listing has been tested before and after cleaning on a US NTSC Super Nintendo using official Nintendo controller testing software. They are 100% functional and responsive.The spring-back of the buttons may vary, but are within acceptable margins. I do not feel that any button is overly mushy to effect performance. I did not replace any parts of the controllers with 3rd party replacements. Only OEM parts (membranes, buttons, shells) were used.
Please remember that these controllers are 30+ years old. Many plastics discolor over time, including those used in these controllers. I have sorted this listing by condition and have priced them accordingly. I have provided pictures of controllers representing each condition as examples, but the controller you receive may not necessarily be pictured.
- Grey to mild discoloration: These most closely resemble the original grey color as when they were new. There may be a small amount of discoloration, but overall these look very close to the original grey.
- Yellowed: The controller has significant yellowing. This may include portions of the controller, or the entire controller overall.
- Heavily yellowed: These have the deepest yellowed color.
- Damaged: There is significant physical damage to the controller, such as broken plastic.This does not effect functionality
