VERY COLORFUL, VERY EARLY Handmade Antique CRAZY QUILT, c.1890, WITH GREAT HAND DONE EMBROIDERY & MANY FEATURES & INITIALS

DESCRIPTION:  THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST YOU WILL FIND!!!

A very colorful handmade patchwork CRAZY quilt from my 40 year collection. Large size, 54" x 54". Typical wonderful CRAZY quilt design and materials (velvet, satin, silk). In great condition, and all fabrics intact, which is quite unusual to find in a crazy quilt. Great crazy piece pattern, typical of 1890's crazy quilts.

This is just the top, typical of most antique c.1890 crazy quilts, and has no backing. A perfect wall hanging size and look. Consists of (16) 14" square blocks.

THIS ONE HAS FANTASTIC EMBBROIDERY FEATURES, including 6 INITIALED ONES, indicating a joint project by a number of women. ALSO A LARGE NUMBER OF HAND EMBROIDERED PICTURES AS SHOWN, flowers and decorations along the piece lines, etc. EXTREMELY HIGH QUALITY EMBROIDERY. All scraps are hand pieced and  hand sewn.

Could be finished into a completed quilt with backing and binding, but not typical for these. Not necessary for use or as a wall hanging.

I have not laundered this quilt top and preferred to keep it just as it came in "as found" condition from the estate. It is generally not suggested that antique crazy quilts ever be washed as it would be detrimental to the early fabrics.

A really nice looking, HIGH QUALITY quilt top for display, for use, or for background for a period collection, or as a wall hanging. In any event, a nicely made, beautiful antique quilt.

THIS HAS BEEN PART OF MY PERSONAL COLLECTION AND IS JUST AS FOUND IN AN EARLY MASSACHUSETTS ESTATE.
