VERY RARE, VERY NICE, 8" REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD  POWDER HORN, WITH ORIGINAL LARGE BRASS TACKS, Hand Carved Wooden Stopper

DESCRIPTION: Particularly nice Revolutionary War POWDER HORN, used by individual riflemen in their flintlock muskets.

This one is very unusual.....carved well, and WITH LARGE BRASS TACKS HOLDING THE WOODEN PLUG IN. I've never seen a powder horn so nicely decorated, as these tacks were not cheap and hard to find.

ALSO COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL HAND-CARVED WOODEN STOPPER WHICH IS USUALLY MISSING. Horn measures about 8 1/2" along its length. Pouring end is very nicely carved. HAS A VERY NICE, NICELY HAND-CARVED WOODEN BUTT PLUG, again, held in by great looking early brass tacks. Also has nice early iron hook on the plug to attach the rawhide strap.

This has all the attributes, design, style, patina, and look of a Revolutionary War period horn. Has really nice color and horn characteristics, nice appearance, and nice patina to the horn and ESPECIALLY TO THE BRASS TACKS. HAS A NICE CURVE TO IT.

Has a particularly nice look to it, for addition to a collection or to hang with a musket over a fireplace. FIRST ONE I HAVE EVER SEEN WITH SUCH BRASS TACK DECORATION.

Very good condition overall. Some minor worm damage, but not bad for its age. An unusual item, from an early Massachusetts estate.
