First volume is 335pp. Text in German. Translated into English as History of the Pleasure Epidemic, (aka Syphilis). Bound together with Hensler's second volume on his favorite STD: Uber den Westindischen Ursprung der Lustseuche, Hamburg: Bachmann and Gundermann, 1794. 92; 134; 15pp comprising Hensler's theories about the West Indian origin of syphilis, and excerpts by other authors in German, Latin, and other languages. 

Quarterbound leather with black decorative paper-covered boards. Gilt tooling and two leather lettering pieces on spine. Edges stained green. Front board bears center gilt device of lion with scepter and Bibl. Univers. Freder. Manuscript initials and 1957 Oslo University withdrawal stamp on front pastedown endpaper, owner signature (G. Rasch) on front free endpaper).
