This is the rarest of the rare when it comes to sports programs. Few remember that New York had a second NFL team in the 1950’s, the Yanks. This ill-fated team lasted just two seasons, 1950-51, before the league revoked the franchise after a one-win season. This program is for a game played at “The House That Ruth Built,” Yankee Stadium, on November 19th, 1950, against the Los Angeles Rams. The Yanks were led by future Oakland Raiders coach John Rauch, Notre Dame quarterback George Ratterman, and star halfback Buddy Young. The Rams were one of the NFL’s glamor teams, featuring Hall of Famers Elroy “Crazy Legs” Hirsch, Dick “Night Train” Lane, and two HOF quarterbacks, Norm “The Dutchman” Van Brocklin and Bob Waterfield. The program, more than 70 years old, is well preserved in Fair condition, and contains complete line-ups and features on both teams. The cover depicts Yankee Stadium against the backdrop of the New York skyline, a true sports artifact. Oh, and by the way, the Rams won, 23 – 17, in overtime.
