During the years of the Civil War in England Edward Hyde, the author, was initially much in favour with the King and rewarded with considerable land in North America which is now Carolina. When he finally fell out of favour he spent the last years of his life in exile in France where he wrote this seminal account of all that had happened during such a tumultuous period....
