THE GMC CCKW TRUCK IN US SERVICE HISTORICAL REFERENCE By David Doyle

For more than half of the 20th century, the 2 1/2 ton 6x6 truck was the backbone of U.S. military tactical transport. The pace-setter for this type of vehicle was the GMC CCKW, which not only served as a transport, but also formed the basis for a myriad of specialized vehicles, from air-transportable versions, to multiple engineering variants, mobile medical facilities, antiaircraft weapons, and trucks that fulfilled a host of other tasks. The CCKW has been the subject of a number of books and articles over the years, but this volume - the second in Squadron Signal's new Historical Reference series - is the first to draw on the archival records of General Motors to trace the truck back to its roots in the 1939 ACKWX and then tell its story through its debut in 1941 and the varied services it rendered with U.S. forces in all theaters in the ensuing decades. GMC's obvious role is covered, but so too are less-known stories, such as the contribution made by multiple Chevrolet facilities to CCKW production. The massive book exhaustively describes the development, production, and U.S. use of the CCKW, ACKW, AFKWX, and CCW in World War II and Korea with an in-depth narrative of more than 100,000 words, illustrated by over 1,200 vintage color and black-and-white photos most of which have never before been published. Illustrated with more than 1,200 photographs plus detailed line drawings; 504 pages, hardbound.

Please note Due to Covid/Fuel prices etc, Overseas shipping/postage where increased around the world back in August 2020. And as of 1st Jan 2020, all imported Books/Manuals (Due to Brexit) will be subject to import Taxes So there will be price increases on many of our imported titles, these are from the USA, so next time we re-stock, they will go up in price, By around 30%? So you have been warned, so buy now, before they have to go up etc.

Hi First of all, many thanks for the looking.

Discount on postage! Sorry there isn't any - read on.

1) Postal charges go on weight, 'Not how many books are in one box etc' (and books are heavy) And it doesn't matter where in the world you are, France, USA, Australia etc. The prices are the same

2) If you didn't know All postal chargers around the World went up by around 30% in August, due to Covid etc.

And have gone up again 1st Jan 2024, and there isn't anything we can do about it, its all down to them.

3) Due to Brexit, on 1st Jan 2021, Vat is going to be added to overseas postal services and export tax (even though books are Vat free here in the UK, this is going to change?)

4) After the 1st Jan, you will also have to pay a tax on receiving anything from the UK (Although We are hoping, by adding a customs for 'lowering the value of books sent', by saying they are worth £20? so you may get away with this?)

If I am honest, Covid and Brexit, are really 'Messing' things up over here (and the rest of the world to)

Hand on Heart, I am now thinking of removing all overseas services from my sales. This will hurt our book sales, but the hassel's it is looking like its going to be, it is just not worth selling overseas anymore? Although we shall wait and see?

So sorry, but right now, we can offer any discount, as due to the above, so please DO NOT ask, as our prices are fixed and have been calulated on Royal Mail International 'Signed For' posting

And before you ask, we will not send them anyother way (Not surface, or any other Postal Company etc)

And also, after ebay/paypal fees etc, it just isn't worth it on our part, we just end up losing out.

So our prices are firm and fixed, and as advertised. So please do not complain to us about our p&p, we don't set these prices, All Postal services do.

Again thanks for looking
