Very Early, Original Antique Tin Candle Mold, 12 Tube Size for 12 Candles, c.1790
Made by Early Tinsmith
DEACQUISITION ITEM FROM ALBANY N.Y. MUSEUM

DESCRIPTION: Scans show it all.....A WONDERFUL, VERY EARLY c. 1780 - 1790 tin candle mold from my personal collection. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL COLONIAL ITEM AND NOT A REPRODUCTION AS OFTEN SEEN ON EBAY. This one has 12 "tubes" to make 12 candles at a time. These were quite an improvement and time saver over hand-dipping candles on early farms, but were rather expensive in 1700's money and not too common.

This was part of the collection in a museum in a small town near Albany, N.Y. and it still has the museum property number on it. The museum closed about a decade ago, and these and many other items were sold off.

It is an excellent example, in excellent condition. Complete with original handle, which is not usually found on many available now.

It stands 10 1/4" tall x 5 3/4" wide x 6" deep. It has a rectangular top, made to hold the tubes in place and facilitate "damming" the wax during pouring. This also provides a dam to hold the wax and keep it from spilling over. At the bottom the tubes are held in place by a similar rectangular bottom rack. Each tube is about 7/8" diameter.

THIS WAS HANDMADE OUT OF HEAVY TIN PLATE MATERIAL BY AN EARLY NEW ENGLAND TINSMITH AKA "TINNER". Looks very good for its age and is in nice, very good condition overall. PARTICULARLY NICE aged tin patina.

Nice early item. MORE THAN 225+ YEARS OLD!!! Great original colonial decorating item for a mantle/shelf or in a kitchen, family room, or living room display.

A NICE, RARE & UNUSUAL COLONIAL PERIOD CANDLE MOLD!!
