Offered here is a Huge Vintage Whitby Haberdashery Shop Sign Advertising a Haberdashery shop that was in Church Street Whitby.
This is a Huge and heavy item and it measures 55 x 43.75 inches and is also quite thick .
It has a fabulous pictorial design that includes items associated with the Haberdashery / wool / sewing industry .
The pictures include Wool related objects , tools , machinery and sheep .
The wording reads Dick & Pam Hoyle ( the proprietors ),
“Bobbins” (the name of the shop), and
Wool Crafts Antiques and Hand Knits .
The shop / company was based in the old Wesleyan Capel or Wesley Hall at 102 Church Street Whitby , this was built in 1901 , it was basically a Yarn shop .
The owners lived in Robin Hoods Bay and were interested in progressing the Town and the original company was dissolved some time ago .
This Sign is a unique item .
It is Artist Signed and would make an extremely decorative piece , it would look great in a pub or bar , or better still in a Mancave or something similar .
This is in appealing vintage condition . The pictorial section and wording is clearly visible and the Glass has extensive crazing / cracking but it is still intact . The Wooden frame has a nice patina and wear . Any white marks are light reflections .
It is extremely heavy and is a significant size. A strong person can lift this by themself and albeit it is a large piece , it does fit in the back of a VW Golf saloon on an angle ( with the boot closed and the driver being left in a comfortable position ) , so it can be collected in most cars .
The artist or Sign Writer is highly skilled and has Signed this work , and the Signature reads
A. Freeman , this is built into the piece . A. Freeman is Alan Freeman who was a talented Sign Writer who was based in Whitby and his Gold Leaf work has been described as nothing less than spectacular , this skill is very evident in this work .
This is a one off opportunity to acquire such a piece , it is framed in the original wooden frame .
