Lake Minnetonka is located about 16 miles west-southwest of Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The lake lies within Hennen and Carver counties and is surrounded by 13 incorporated municipalities.  At 14,528 acres, it is Minnesota’s ninth largest lake.  One of those communities on the lake is Mound Minnesota, which derives its name from the “Indian Mounds” in town that were not built by the local Dakota Native Americans, but their prehistoric ancestors.

One of the hotels on the lake was the Bartlett Hotel in Mound, which was built on Bartlett Boulevard in 1883, both named after its founder Edward Bartlett.  It had 16 rooms of available space in the day, later they would be turned into apartments and the name was changed to “Lakeview Apartments”.  The apartments (the Barlett Hotel) existed until a fire destroyed the building in 1985. hometownsource

It is, however, still on this card, published by “S.E. Ellis” and postmarked in 1806.  The card is in excellent condition, except for postmark imprints on the front.  The ends seem to have been trimmed, which I just noticed, but the image is clean and clear, and I thiink the card survives as a rare find, priced accordingly.

The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.

Unless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia, Playle's and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible.  Corrections appreciated.
