The first Best of the Dragon was a compilation of influential early articles from The Dragon and Strategic Review. Almost all of the articles in this compilation are about D&D, with numerous pieces from the "Desginer's Forum," "Dragon Mirth," and "Variants" columns, including such articles as "Illusionist Additions," "The Original Ranger Class," "Lycanthropy - The Progress of the Disease," and "Random Monsters."[1]
Best of Dragon, Vol. II was a compilation of articles from Dragon Magazine for the D&D and AD&D games, including articles about new non-player character types (including anti-paladin, samurai, berserkers, and ninja), Gary Gygax's "Sorcerer's Scroll" articles, and "Monsters and miscellany" (articles about gates, vampires, tesseracts, poison, pole arms, and the politics of Hell).[1]
