For the gardener looking for year-round interest in the garden, arum is definitely a plant to have as this is one of the best winter foliage plants for the garden . The leaves emerge from the ground in September - October and by early November the plants is full and lush . This greenery stays lush right through the winter , thriving on cold weather . When temperatures dip below freezing the leaves curl up unfolding as the weather warms up .

This tuberous perennial is hardy and doesnt required much care . The arrowhead shaped leaves grow to about 1 1/2 feet tall and are a deep shiny green with a yellowish veining through out which gives it a nice color .

As spring approaches and the weather warms , a spathe type flower emerges in May / June . These flower are a creamy white color . As the flowers mature the leaves start to die back ( in June ) leaving a tall stalk with large green berries and as these mature they turn a bright orangey red color . After the seeds ripen , they fall to the ground and then the plants starts to send up new leaves to start the cycle over again .
