Woodstock is a town in Grafton County, New Hampshire and includes the village of North Woodstock, the commercial center.  Its extensive land area is largely forested and includes the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest.  Parts of the White Mountain National Forest are in the east and west and the Appalachian Trail crosses the town’s northwest corners.
First incorporated in 1763 as Peeling after an English town.  In 1771 it was given the name of Fairfield and was renamed in 1840 for Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, England.  Logging became a principal early industry, with sawmills established using waterpower from the Pemigewasset River.  The entrance of the railroad in the 19th century opened the wilderness to development and carried away wood products to market.
It also brought tourists, many attracted by paintings by the White Mountains Artists.  Several inns and hotels were built to accommodate the wealthy, who sought relief from the summer heat, humidity and population of coal-age Boston, Hartford, New York, and Philadelphia.  With the advent of the automobile age, patrons were no longer restricted by the limits of rail service.  Consequently, many grand hotels established near depots declined and closed but Woodstock remains a popular tourist destination.
This card was published by “Alex Russell" and printed by the "Frank Swallow PC Co.” and chronicles an early "Church and School" in Woodstock.  The card is not dated but is a White Border era card, 1915-1930 and is in good condition with some minor wear on the corners and edges.  There is a stain through from the reverse on the image which is otherwise clean and clear. There are some students and a teacher in the school yard.

The staining on the front of the card is more pronounced  and the colors are more neutral on the scan than on the card.

Unless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia and MetroPostCard for research.
