Bell OH-58 Kiowa Helicopter

Originally developed for the US Army's Light Observation Helicopter program, the Bell D-250 first flew on December 8, 1962. When the D-250 failed to make the final cut for the Army's program, Bell redesigned the air-frame, added 16 cubic feet of cargo space and marketed the upgraded version commercially as the Bell 206A Jet Ranger.

The new design was reconsidered by the Army in 1968, which commissioned it as the OH-58 Kiowa.

Today it is used by both the Army and the Navy as a primary trainer, and it remains popular with the news media as a traffic and reporting aircraft.
