LEAD PLANT gets its name because old time prospectors thought this plant only grew near a seam of lead. A member of the Legume family, Lead Plant fixes nitrogen into the soil. This tough as nails plant will grow just about anywhere with full sun. A butterfly garden favorite.  This perennial is shrub-like and reaches 24-40 inches tall and about 30" wide. If grown in a partially shaded area, it will sprawl along the ground in the direction of more sunlight. Young stems are green and covered with white hairs. Leaves are whitish to gray-green and bloom spikes are full of nectar rich purple flowers. Blooms all summer into fall. Uses include erosion control, prairie restoration, wildlife and livestock fodder. Lead Plant is not picky about soil. Prefers clay rich soil on the dry side but will grow in just about any soil. Lead Plants are easy to grow from seed, but develop slowly. They may not bloom until 2nd or 3rd year. They have a deep root system and a long life span (20+ yrs). Carefree after established. 100+ Seeds per order.  Thank You!
