- PETE SEEGER was born in New York City on 5-3-1919 and died in NYC on 1-27-2014. PETE lead a very controversial life style, joined the Communist Party in 1936, but left the Party in 1949. PETE was a member of The Weavers folk group. The group was blacklisted during the 1950's during the McCARTHY ERA. This CONCERT was recorded on 10-5-1956. (very rare) The Weavers re-emerged in the 1960's.
- LEE CONLEY BRADLEY aka BIG BILL BROONZY was born in either Lake Duck, AR on 6-26-1893 or Scott, MS on 6-26-1903. HE was a black blues player that played with Muddy Waters, Memphis Slim, Willie Dixon, Jimmie Rodgers, Blind Blade, etc. all South Side Chicago players. BIG BILL died in Chicago, IL on 8-14-1958 of throat cancer.
PETE SEEGER & BIG BILL BROONZY were recorded at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL on Oct. 5, 1956 (very rare) and aired by WFMT-FM Chicago, IL on 9-23-1973. I recorded this CONCERT using a Marantz 2270 receiver, a high-gain FM antenna with a rotor, a Sony 850 1/4 track recorder @ 7 1/2 IPS with BASF Premium 1800' tape. Also included is an all plastic case that was designed and offered by BASF. I case is 7 7/8" high x 7 1/2" deep x 1" wide and there are two 1/8" diameter holes along the back edge of the case.
