Early Francois X. Marange multi-color collagraph, Red Balloon (possibly in homage to the fine French film of the same name from 1956), signed and numbered print

François-Xavier Marange was born in France in 1948.  He studied etching and immigrated to Montreal, Quebec in 1982.  He studied intaglio printmaking at the Leblanc, Lacourière-Frélaut and Maeght studios in Paris and worked with renowned artists such as Friedlander, Lam, Miró, Tàpies, Zao Wou-Ki.
In 1982, Marange moved to Montreal at the invitation of Louis-Pierre Bougie, whom he befriended in Paris.  Along with the founding members, Marange helped shape the mission of Atelier Circulaire: to create a “platform” for the transmission traditional printmaking and to work towards an illuminated rehabilitation of this artistic practice in Montreal and beyond.
