Williams Sonoma Ceramic Monkey Bread Mold Baking Dish. Bundt Pan.

A 20th-century American classic, monkey bread is a rich yeast - leavened bread formed from balls of dough that are dipped in melted butter, sprinkled with sweet or savory seasonings and baked in a tall tube mold like this one. Recipes for the towering golden - brown bread first appeared in women's magazines in the 1950's, and it quickly became a family favorite.

Some stories claim the bread is named for its appearance, which resembles everything from a monkey puzzle tree to a playful group of monkeys jumbled together. Another theory speculates that the name describes how bakers have to "monkey around" with the dough. Whatever its namesake, the bread is a delight to create in this baking mold, whose design was inspired by a similar mold offered by Williams - Sonoma in the 1970's.
