Utagawa Sadafusa (active 1825-1850)?, Beauty admiring Cherry Blossoms, authentic 19th-century woodblock woodcut Japanese print.

A young woman in a multi-layered kimono steps out onto a bridge, holding a folded umbrella, to admire the cherry blossoms. She wears high gita (sandals) and prominent hair pin/ornaments.Near her head is a circular vignette of a particular building. This is similar to published images from Utagawa Sadafusa's series Five Scenes of the Eastern Capital, which links the beauties portrayed to specific places in Edo. The floating inscriptions dotted around the figure are also characteristic of this artist.

The print is not of the high quality typical of museum examples of Utagawa Sadafusa's work. It is likely a later reprint, perhaps from the second half of the 19th century.
