Huge folio-size hardcover bound in dark-brown embossed cloth ornately decorated in gilt on front cover and spine with massive gilt illustrations of a temple, a cathedral and a mosque on the front cover. Gilt-covered page edges. Dark-brown coated endpapers. Frontispiece engraving protected with tissue. 176 pages. B/w engravings on heavyweight paper throughout. Measures approx. 13" x 10 1/4". 

In VERY GOOD + condition. 

Light wear to spine ends and corner tips. Boards have a few slight touches of surface wear and one small rubbed spot at fore edge of front cover. Otherwise excellent. The gilt on the front cover and spine remains extremely bright and unworn. Pages are lightly age-toned with some sporadic light foxing but otherwise close to flawless with no stains or tears. No previous owner markings.
