Antique Atlanta Boat Club Mug
...1912...
The Club logo is on the front of the mug.
Atlanta BC 1848 with two crossed oars

Back of mug has this quote,"YOUR MONEY IS YOUR BEST FRIEND".  There is nothing on the bottom of the mug.

The mug measures 3 5/16" in diameter, 4 3/4" including handle, 4" H and weighs 1lb. 3 oz.  The mug looks like an old crock.  Its made out of the same material.

In addition to standard racing, Atlanta was known to participate in "rowing stunts." They were the first to row around Manhattan (1848) and the first to row to Philadelphia (1857).  Atlanta competed in the St. Louis Olympic Games of 1904, winning bronze in the 1x, gold in the 2x, and silver in the coxless pair.  The club persisted for nearly 100 years in the company of other boathouses in Manhattan, and those that moved further and further North along the Hudson River, or eventually migrated to calmer waters of the Harlem River.

The mug is in good condition for its age.  Some of the gold rings around the top of mug have worn off.  There is crazing all over the mug.  There are imperfections in the stoneware from when the mug was made.  These imperfections are under the glaze. There a few bits of paint on the mug as well.  Please see photos.

I found a photo of the Atlanta Crew and added it as the last photo.  This is one of the coolest items I ever found at an estate sale.

Thanks for checking out my store.
