Scottsbluff is a city in Scotts Bluff County, in the western part of the state of Nebraska, in the Great Plains region of the United States.  It was founded in 1899 across the Platte River from its namesake, a bluff that is now a U.S. National Park called Scotts Bluff National Monument.  By 1900, the Railroad laid tracks into the town, and placed a discarded boxcar nest to the tracks as a temporary depot.  It was the first town in the region to be located along a rail line which resulted in businesses moving from Gering to Scots Bluff.

The Monument is located west of the city of Gering and protects over 3,000 acres of historic overland trail remnants, mixed grass prairie, rugged badlands, towering bluffs, and riparian area along the North Platte River.  The Bluff served as an important landmark on the Oregon Trail, California Trail, and Pony Express Trail, and was visible at a distance from the Mormon Trail.  Over 250,000 westward emigrants passed by the Bluff between 1843 and 1869.  It was the second-most referred to landmark on the Emigrant Trials in pioneer journals and diaries.  Although called “Scotts Bluff National Monument,” the site includes two separate bluffs, “South Bluff” and the northern bluff called “Scotts Bluff” The area between Scotts Bluff and the North Platte River is known as the “Badlands”.

This card is a "Curt Teich Doubletone" with the caption "Approaching Scotts Bluff, North Platte Valley".  A view that many pioneers saw on their way west.  It is a Teich Doubletone which he printed, among other styles, from 1912 to 1925, as a black halftone over two tints, one neutral and one warm. This card is definitely on the warm side. It is a DB and is in good condition with a small tear bottom edge and a pin hole upper edge.  The image is clean and clear.  The reverse has a message that "this is our farm.. on the other side of the fence", and is clean.

The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.
