Sumptuous Victorian Classical sterling silver serving dish. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York. Rectangular well and scrolling, asymmetrical turned-down rim; bracket-shaped ends with leaf-mounted scroll handles, and corner fruiting grapevine supports. Well has acid-etched leafing scrollwork and flower baskets. Sides have embossed and stippled lobing and corner volute scrolls, and applied cherubs brandishing arrows and flower baskets and frolicking together within the bounds of decency. Well and side lobes gilt-washed. Fully marked including maker's stamp, pattern no. 8165 (first produced in 1884), and director's letter M (1873-91). Very good condition with some wear and to gilding.
