19th Century French Depose Friar Pottery Character Pitcher / Jug Marked "Creil Et Montereau".  The round friar is dressed in a brown garment cinched at the waist with a burgundy colored rope-style tie. He wears a blue trimmed black hat. His face has a wide grin, rosy checks, wide eyes, and gray hair.  The handle and base are white with blue trim.  The base of the handle has a flaring leaf design.  The interior is white.  The jug has great color and form. The base is marked, "Depose, Creil Et Montereau". There are also two impressed marks.

SIZE:  8 1/2 inches high x 7 inches wide from edge of handle to side.

CONDITION:  The top rim has an inner chip -- slight color wear on the black hat -- discoloration to the bottom part of the base rim from display, otherwise the jug is in great condition with no cracks. The white base has crazing.  The jug is bright and clean. There is glare in the photos.

Wonderful old piece -- collector's item.
