James Martin Peebles (1822-1922) was a notorious organiser of many psychic organisations. He was convicted in 1903 of fraudulently operating a mail order psychic healing business whereby people would send him money and a list of symptoms, and he would mail them a diagnosis and a bottle of patent medicine. He was a enthusiastic vegetarian and proponent of animal rights. He was also an anti-vaccination campaigner.
