Great one of a kind USWV Milwaukee wooden 2 sided "Key to the City". Key is 35" long. Painting is identical on both sides. USWV stands for United Spanish War Veterans. The key has a name written on it in pen. The writing says Geo. C. Bauer Dept. (Deputy) Commander (of the USWV). I was able to find George C. Bauer in the national archives. He was a corporal in the 1st Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, Co. L, during the Spanish-American War. Since Bauer would have been around 70 in 1946, the key is possibly some type of retirement gift. Also, the end with the date has been repainted. You can make out the date 1932 underneath the 1946 date, which makes it over 90 years old! Wood is 100% intact (no chips). Paint has a few spots of spiderwebbing due to age. Patina is great. Overall excellent condition. Safe shipping. Thanks!
