This tartan is unique in that it is endorsed by Headquarters U.S. Coast Guard as the offical Service tartan.  The design is a variation of the Hamilton clan tartan.  This pays homage to the founder of the colonial era Revenue Cutter Service, Alexander Hamilton.  The Revenue Cutter Service became the U.S. Coast Guard.  This tartan is registered with the Scottish Tartan Authority.
