BACKGROUND  

1929 When it was built she was the biggest floating whaling factory (and tanker) ever built. She was launched in Belfast 30/5-29. In autumn 1929 KOSMOS leave for the Antarctic with her catchers KOS I-VII.
1930 Leave for the Antarctic on her second season with her catchers, KOS I-VII. Her two newbuildings, KOS VIII og KOS IX arrive 11th of October.
1931 Lay up.
1932 Leave for the Antarctic with a quota of 103.000 bbls. In addition 1/3 of the quota of factory PONTOS. The fleet consists of 8 catchers (KOS II-IX). The result of the season became 179.308 bbls.
1933 Proceed to tha Antarctic with 6 catchers.
1934 Participating in the whaling season with 8 catchers (KOS II-IX)
1935 KOSMOS and the catchers KOS III-VIII, KOS XVII including KOS XVIII. KOS XIII and XVI on loan from KOSMOS II during the season periode between 2nd.of Febr to 5th of March.
1936 Leaves for Antarctic with 9 catchers. KOS IV,VII,XI,XVII-XX, including TAS II and GOS IV. KOS IX lost her propeller and had to leave for Walvis Bay for repair in 14 days. KOSMOS was in use as a tanker the sommer of 1937. She was trading between Curacao/Aruba and UK/Cont with fuel oils.
1937 Operated as a transport ship for KOSMOS II and some other whaling expedtions.
1938 Back as a whaling factory with 8 catchers.
1939 Catching with 9 catchers. After finishing off the season the fleet went to Walvis Bay for sommer lay up for the cathers. From Walvis Bay she was ordered to proceed to Dakar. After a 10 weeks stay in Dakar, she was under the command of the Nortraship ordered back to Walvis Bay where a part of the crew shifted over to the catchers. KOSMOS went to Cape Town. After a months time she was ordered to proceed to Curacao via Walvis Bay.
1940 The 26/9-1940 she was located abt. 2000 nautical miles east of Trinidad, where she was seized by a german raider and sunk. Together with KOSMOS also 106.000 bbls of whale oil get lost.
