A charming litho tin mechanical bank. The bank dates circa 1946-1952 or so. This bank is marked on the back side panel: "MADE IN GERMANY U. S. ZONE" & also " D.G.M." The back side shows a girl & a boy holding letters & standing by a mail box. One side panel shows a girl with her dog & a present wrapped with a ribbon. The other side panel shows a boy wearing a derby hat & holding a bunch of flowers.

The front scene shows a dog at the bottom looking up at the scene in the front middle. In the middle of the front there is a panel showing a telephone & there is a circular projecting coin holder in front of the phone that moves when a lever is pressed. At the same time this telephone & coin tray move as a bell rings (representing a phone ringing). Then a different scene appears showing a young boy with a dog answering the ring & talking on the phone. When the other lever is pressed the boy & dog scene disappear & the panel with the telephone & coin tray reappear. The mechanical mechanism is in excellent operational condition.

The litho is in fresh condition with absolutely no fading. The two front scenes that move have a high gloss finish (as issued) & as does the roof. The rest of the bank has a contrasting semi-gloss matt type finish (as issued). A very scarce design of bank which is even radically more scarce in this gloss/matt variant version. This contrast in finishes actually makes for more of a visual drama with the mechanical scenes. Because of the gloss & matt finish contrast, the scenes jump out much more than they do in the all gloss finish version. The bank measures 5 3/4 inches tall by 3 3/16 inches wide by 2 5/16 inches deep.

There are a few scratches & some aging to the litho located left of the dog at the bottom of the front area. The coin tray has some oxidation & light surface rust. One corner of the roof has a very tiny bend. The back panel has a subtle smooth curvature which appears to have occurred during the manufacture.

The original key lock coin trap underneath has a few bends. There is  a spot for the key underneath the bank. But, the key is not present. We have described a few minor condition issues in detail for accuracy. But, basically the bank is in fresh, very attractive, & quite appealing condition. This example has been in my collection for a number of years. You are not likely to find a better condition example unless, by some rare chance, a mint one were to turn up.

Please examine the photos closely and purchase based on your own judgement as to condition and value.
