or your consideration is this ATTRACTIVE LARGE and HEAVY SCARCE ANTIQUE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS (LDS Church) ADVERTISING GLASS BLOCK PAPERWEIGHT made in the U.S.A. by the BUREAU OF INFORMATION, TEMPLE BLOCK, SALT LAKE CITY .The lithograph print dates the paperweight back to between 1895 and 1905 and features a beautiful period hand-colored lithograph print of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Salt Lake Temple, Salt Lake Tabernacle and the Salt Lake Assembly Hall all located on Temple Block in Salt Lake City, Utah . I've have never come across another paperweight like this one; inasmuch, I believe this LARGE paperweight to be a very scarce find. I have found "SMALLER" 4.0" long x 2.50" wide more common versions of this paperweight but not the scarce large version. The paperweight is made out of heavy clear glass and weighs nearly 1.0 pound (15.0 ounces) by itself. This is a large glass block paperweight that measures approximately 7.25" in length, 3-13/16" wide and 1.0" thick. As previously stated, the paperweight features a beautiful period hand-colored lithograph print depicting the Temple Block in Salt Lake City, Utah . The print is titled " TEMPLE BLOCK SALT LAKE CITY UTAH " inside a banner located in the center of the bottom of the image. The print is fitted in the depression on the bottom of the glass allowing the image to be viewed from the top of the paperweight. The paperweight has an ornate cut glass ribbed perimeter that surrounds the entire print. This 3-demenional design pattern helps refract the ambient light of the surroundings and creates a pleasant visual that is pleasing to the eyes. Please refer to the description photos for more details about what I have described. For your review and further consideration I copied the below brief history of the Temple Block and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."In 1847, when Mormon pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley, President Brigham Young selected a plot of the desert ground, initially referred to as "Temple Block" and proclaimed, "Here we will build a temple to our God." When the city was surveyed, the block enclosing that location was designated for the temple and became known as Temple Square. Temple Square is surrounded by a 15-foot wall that was built shortly after the block was so designated. The square also became the headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Other buildings were built on the plot, including a tabernacle (prior to the one occupying Temple Square today) and Endowment House, both of which were later torn down. The Salt Lake Tabernacle, home of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, was built in 1867 to accommodate the church's general conferences with a seating capacity of 8,000. Another church building, the Salt Lake Assembly Hall was later built with a seating capacity of 2,000" .This large and beautiful advertising paperweight was designed to promote the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the church's impressive buildings and complex. The heavy clear glass is clean and free of any damage and/or scratches. The colorful lithograph print retains its beautiful colors that are further enhanced with what appears to be intentionally placed abalone shell backing in certain areas of the print which creates a beautiful iridescent reflection (hard to capture in a photograph) when viewing the image. These noted pieces of abalone shell can be felt behind the cardboard backing. The faint outlines of the aforementioned shells can be seen in description photos # 8 and # 9. Please refer to the description photos for more details about what I have described. The bottom of the paperweight has a simulated wood grain cardboard backing to protect the lithograph print and prevent it from falling out.
