Hardcover book without dust jacket.  I only found one page that had a water drop spot on it.  Cover has some marks so please see pics.  The boards are a deep burgundy with gold print.  Author is Gordon Trumbull.  Published in 1888.

Names and portraits of birds which interest gunners with descriptions in language understanded of the people.

This book is about birds that hunters shoot for food.  It describes the uses of the bird for food and the equivalency to other food sources.  For example:  a fat goose weighs about 9 pounds is the daily ration for one of the Company’s servants, during the season is rather Jones equivalent to two snow geese, or three ducks, or eight pounds of buffalo and moose meat, or two pounds of pemmican, or a pint of maize and four ounces of suet.

Kind of interesting.
