AN EASIER DAY'S WORK
That Saves Gas, Improves Your Baking and Gives You More Hours of Freedom
1924

DESCRIPTION:
This is an antique 1924 booklet promoting the Lorain Oven Heat Regulator.  It also promotes the latest models of stoves equipped with "the Lorain.". These were manufactured by the George M. Clark & Co., Division in Chicago, of the Clark Jewel Company.  They basically added "the Lorain" thermostat to the ovens of their stoves, which came with a control knob that adjusted the temperature of the oven from hot baking to merely warm, as desired.

Of course, most stoves in those days had no heat control feature, so "the Lorain" was a big deal.  In this booklet, the feature and its' numerous benefits are clearly explained. To further sell these new stoves to women, they included 8 various "Menus of Whole Meals Cooked at One Time," to help slow cook meals.  By adjusting the temperature and the time, meals could be cooked slowly, from 3-5 hours, giving the busy homemaker the afternoon off!  And with the elimination of "pot watching," one could also eliminate a servant as well.  Think of the money saved!  These are just a few details that paint a picture of how wonderful life would be with a stove like this.  The booklet al has several interesting pictures of cooks preparing meals on these stoves as well as the various stove models themselves

Today, we can't imagine an oven on a gas stove without a thermostat.  100 years ago, in 1924, when this pamphlet was printed, consumers needed convincing.  An amazing slice of the American housewife's history!  A RARE RARE FIND!
