Moscow" is a Russian guards missile cruiser, the lead ship of Project 1164 "Atlant". He was part of the 30th division of surface ships of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy. Built at the shipyard named after 61 communards in the city of Nikolaev, it was originally named “Slava”. After the decommissioning of the Project 1123 anti-submarine cruiser Moskva, it inherited its name and became the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet. He took part in military conflicts in Georgia (2008) and Syria (2015), as well as in the blockade of the Ukrainian fleet in Crimea (2014) and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine (2022).
During the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the ship took part in the capture of Zmeiny Island. It was to the cruiser “Moscow” that the phrase of the Ukrainian border guard was spoken, which later became popular: “Russian warship, go to ....”
On the night of April 13-14, 2022, the ship was seriously damaged as a result of a fire and explosion. According to Ukrainian authorities and experts, the ship was attacked by two Neptune anti-ship missiles of the Ukrainian Navy. On April 14, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the cruiser sank in a storm while being towed to the port due to hull damage caused by the detonation of ammunition during a fire.
The sunken cruiser became Russia's most expensive military loss in the war with Ukraine. According to the assumption of the television and radio company Deutsche Welle, with an initial cost of about $2 billion, the residual value of the cruiser was $750 million. Ukraine assigned the sunken cruiser the status of an underwater cultural heritage site under No. 2064.
