50 Years since the Victory over Nazi Germany
Special Coin, 1995/5755

The Second World War, the biggest war in the history of mankind in terms of scope and loss of human life, ended in 1945. In May of that year, Germany signed the terms of its surrender and Europe was liberated from Nazi subjugation. The Jewish people suffered more than any other in this war. A third of world Jewry, some 6 million men, women and children, were systematically murdered by the Nazis in camps specially created for that purpose in a diabolical extermination scheme. Over 1 million Jews fought in Allied armies, the Jewish Brigade, the Red Army, the partisans and the ghetto undergrounds.

The Israel Coin commemorating the tragedy for the Jewish people and 50th Anniversary of the end of the war, whose design met with special admiration, was included in an international coin set devoted to this theme.
