Discovery time: 2008

Meteorite Name: Gebel Kamil (Camille Iron Meteorite)

Meteorite history: In 2008, researchers accidentally discovered a well-preserved crater in the Sahara desert of Egypt. Although it has been thousands of years, the impact traces are still clearly visible.

In February 2009, a preliminary survey was carried out on the crater, and a large-scale excavation work was carried out in and around the crater.

Scientists found an 83 kg body, and the rest of the meteorites were all in the shape of flying shrapnel. These iron meteorites have been weathered for thousands of years, forming attractive red shells with desert characteristics. The new species of iron meteorite discovered in this expedition was named Gebel Kamil iron meteorite.
