This is a genuine Fordite (Ford Motor Company) pendant set with a sterling silver pinch bail.  The pendant is reversible offering two beautiful and distinct patterns and color combinations (please see photos).  This material came from a SE Michigan auto plant in the late 1970s.  Fordite (sometimes called Detroit agate) is reclaimed auto paint, originally named for the Ford plants where much of it came from.  In the old automotive painting process, layers and layers of various colors or paint would harden and build up on the skids that auto companies used.  Eventually this buildup would need to be broken off the skids.  Some employees, seeing the beauty in the pieces, would bring them home.  Modern painting processes eliminated this buildup, thus very little true fordite has come out of US auto plants in decades.  I am very careful in my sourcing of material and shape, polish and set the pendants I sell.
