Vintage 1931 Schneider Trophy air race souvenir in the form of an engraved 18/8 stainless steel cigarette case, produced by Thomas Firth at their Staybrite works in Sheffield UK. The inner case bears the stamped marks 'Firth Staybrite' and 'Dura-Lustra'. Spring opening mechanism is fully functioning, with an intact stapled cigarette retention band to the interior. As Firth Aircraft Steels supplied Supermarine with materials, this may possibly have been for in-house presentation rather than a publicly available item. The case is approximately 8cms x 10cms x 1cm, exhibiting some minor usage / handling marks to the exterior and interior. The final four images depicting contemporary periodical advertising are provided for information only and are NOT included in this sale.

As the UK team won the event for a third consecutive time in 1931, Great Britain retains the trophy itself in perpetuity and it can be viewed at the Science Museum in Kensington Central London. The winning Supermarine S6B registered S1595 was piloted by Fl Lt John Boothman who achieved a peak speed of 340.08 mph over seven laps of the course. S6B S1596 was subsequently flown by fellow RAF High-Speed Flight member Fl Lt George Stainforth to a new world air speed record of 407.5 mph.
