The lamp can be connected to either a dc supply or the power output of a signal generator set to a sine wave. The output voltage of the signal generator is slowly increased till the brightness is the same with both supplies. At this point the energy supplied must be the same. Connecting an oscilloscope to the board enables the peak and equivalent dc to be measured.
