This series would be a great asset to any elementary school. The subject matter covered can enhance a unit on any level of government and can help explain a variety of governments in other countries. Students will learn about a different, but related government topic every two pages. The font is large and easy to read. The photos, diagrams, charts, maps, and illustrations supplement the text well, but would also provide excellent visual aids to teachers trying to explain this material to students. Each volume includes a "Find Out More" section that includes related references. The series is current and up to date, with a picture of President Obama on the Cover on National Government. Glossary. Simply and directly written for students in elementary grades, National Government explains the workings of the federal government of the United States. It lays the foundation by defining government, and explaining the kind of government that we have in the US. The Constitution is discussed, with each of the three branches being explained in detail. Modern photographs of current government officials are a part of each page, along with maps, charts, diagrams, and sidebars of additional, supportive information included throughout the book. It tells how our government is divided into three main branches (Executive, Legislative, and Judicial) and what each separate branch is responsible for. A step by step process for passing laws is included and there is a chapter telling how taxes support the monetary needs of the government. This book includes glossary, an index, and a table of contents page. The photographs support and enhance the text. Captions provide additional information. Flow charts and graphs are also included to help explain the text. The facts and descriptions are accurate.
