Vintage Laserdisc Not DVD, Blu-ray, LP or VHS, A Laserdisc is only designed to play on a specially designed Laserdisc player, it is an optical disc storage medium that was primarily used for video playback before the widespread adoption of DVDs and other digital formats. It was introduced in 1978 and was one of the first consumer-oriented optical disc formats. Laserdiscs are typically 12" in diameter & held more data than traditional analog VHS tapes and could store video and audio content on both sides of the disc. Laserdiscs allowed for high-quality playback, especially compared to the VHS tapes of the time. Laserdiscs never achieved mass-market success due to their relatively high cost, limited availability of titles, and the eventual emergence of more compact and convenient formats like DVDs. Laserdisc did however played a significant role in the development of optical disc technology and paved the way for subsequent formats like DVDs & Blu-ray discs.
